The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
